New harvest of broken hearts

While many people come to Turkey for a holiday, a lot of them have already returned to their home countries with a gorgeous tan (or peeling off skin), bunch of souvenirs and new experiences (positive or not). Along with that, many girls and women return home with broken hearts, having a small crush on some Turkish guy, which grows big during later communication via e-mails, sms or Skype.

I have a website, where I write about Turkish culture, traditions, way of life etc, and when new season started, I had to open a separate page where girls could write the stories of their holiday romances, because I started to get dozens of comments on the subject. The stories are mostly the same: met at hotel (disco, shop, bar); on the second day he said he loved her (didn’t believe it, but he looked so sincere!); called her his woman (a little vulgar, but very romantic!); promised to call and write (and he does!).

Most of the guys also have a cover story (as if they were some agents), depending on their fantasy and goals. They are never married (and have never been), have a business of their own (or a family business), several cars (actually, borrowed from friends), they can drive a girl around, indicating random shops and telling that they belong to them.

When a girl returns home, she is not the same anymore. She is daydreaming and happy just when they talk online. They plan how she will come to him again, how he will introduce her to his family, when they get married and how many children they will have.

Sometimes he gets angry: “Tell me you don’t have anybody else! Where have you been? You are late! Who else are you talking to now?” etc. He says he is a Turkish man, that is why he has a right to be hot-tempered, and even bad-tempered.

Guys sell everything in an exotic wrap of “Turkish mentality”, and girls fall for it even more. Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that, if you ask them to explain what that “Turkish mentality” consists of, they will never be able to explain, as nobody can explain their Russian, British, American or whatever else mentality, unless you are a specialist on you country culture.

Anyway, that doesn’t matter for a girl, everything seems pink until one day she decides to make a surprise to her boyfriend and come to Turkey, arranging everything herself. That time most of the time problems start. It turns out, that her beloved, who seemed dying to see her, is not as happy as she thought he would be. Later it turns out, that he planned to meet some other girl that time and she is not the only one…

Unfortunately, the most of stories are the same. However, it doesn’t mean that there are no happy endings. Some couples meet again, get married and sometimes even have a long happy life together. If they manage to solve their mentality difference. Sometimes it becomes far too difficult for people of different cultures. But that is another story…

Wish you more happy endings in your life.
See you next week.
